Graveside services for Katherine Mary Nightengale of Terlton, Oklahoma will be held Monday, Aug 4, 2008, 10:00 am in the Robbins Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas with Rev. Harrell Jones officiating. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in memory of Katie to the Green Country Volunteer Fire Department: P.O. Box 112; 546 W. Imperial Blvd; Sand Springs, Oklahoma 74063. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 4:00 pm till 6:00 pm or online at www.chapman-black.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Katherine was born September 15, 1915 near Perkins, Oklahoma the daughter of John and Myrtle (Bowen) Fast. As a young girl Katie grew up and attended schools in Okesa near Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She later moved with her family to Coffeyville, Kansas where she assisted her parents providing for the family and working on the family farm. On March 24, 1937, Katie was united in marriage to Richard "Dock" Victor Nightengale, Sr. at Independence, Kansas and to this union there are two children Richard, Jr. and Wayne. They established their initial home in Coffeyville, Kansas. During their marriage they traveled throughout Oklahoma and Texas due to the fact that Dock was in the construction business. In 1972, the couple purchased property in Terlton where they built their home. Mrs. Nightengale has continued to reside there until August of 2007.
Katie enjoyed quilting and was proud of the fact that she made one for each of her grandchildren. She attended Oak Hill Church of Keystone Lake and would often help in the preparation of dinners or in any capacity that she could assist. She will be remembered by many as the one who taught each one to put their hands above their heads when they prayed because they were antennas to God.
Katie Nightengale went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday evening July 30, 2008, at the age of 92. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Richard Victor Nightengale, Sr., two sons Richard, Jr. and Wayne Nightengale, three brothers John, Luke, Phillip Fast; two sisters Esther Farris and Faith Morton.
Survivors include her two brothers Paul Fast of Panama City, Florida; Warren Fast of Coffeyville, Kansas; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two daughters in laws Dorothy Nightengale of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Sheryl Nightengale of Los Angeles, California as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
