Julia Agnes Dodd, lifelong Mannford area resident, passed from this life on Friday, April 18, 2014 at her home, at the age of ninety-two years. She was born on the family farm, on June 3, 1921 near House Creek, in rural Pawnee County. She was one of twelve children born to Jessie Jack and Naomi Agness (Misner) Varnell. Julia was raised on the family farm and attended a rural school near the farm called House Creek School. Upon completion of the seventh grade, Julia continued to assist with the operation of the farm and helped with the raising of her younger siblings. On June 14, 1945, Julia was united in marriage to William Edgar Dodd at the Church of God in Oilton, Oklahoma. The couple resided a short time on the Varnell family farm before purchasing nearly sixty acres south of Mannford and establishing their home there; where they raised two children, Judy and Edgar. In 1964, Julia accepted a position with the State of Oklahoma working as a food service employee at Hissom Memorial Center near Sand Springs. She worked for nearly twenty-years in the food service department preparing meals for the clients of Hissom until her retirement at the age of sixty. Julia was a lifelong member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Oakhill Full Gospel Church for a while prior to her declining health. She lived her life following the scripture found in Luke 6:31, ìAnd as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.î Her hobbies included sewing, quilting and canning. She loved to cook and was known for her outstanding hamburgers and baked items like cherry and apple pie. She could often be found reading the Tulsa or local paper and also enjoyed listening to George Jones sing. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Dodd on August 7, 1970. On August 4, 2012, Julia lost her home of nearly sixty years as a result of the fires that swept through Creek County. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother of Judy and Edgar and a special grandmother to Brent, whom she spoiled a bunch. She is survived by a son, Edgar Dale Dodd of Mannford, Oklahoma and a daughter and her husband, Judy and Kenneth Cochran of Mannford, Oklahoma; grandson, Brent Cochran of Mannford, Oklahoma; two brothers, Kenneth Varnell of Roanoke, Arkansas and Hershel Varnell of Mannford, Oklahoma; five sisters, Beulah McDowell of Dumas, Texas, Norma Hart of Sheldon, Missouri, Geneva Wilson of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Leitha Belmer of Osage, Oklahoma, and Oneda Lewis of Texas. In addition to her husbnad, Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Jack and Agness Varnell; three brothers, Fred, Mansel, and Gerald Varnell and a sister, Verla Jones. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 2:00 PM at the Oakhill Full Gospel Church with Rev. Harrel Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakhill Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Cochran, John Hall, Robbie Gibson, Dale Vaughan, Nathan Vaughan and Kenneth Cochran.
