Judy Ann (Smothermon) Cobb

Judith Smothermon Cobb was born on August 16, 1940 in Sperry, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Lloyd and Margaret (Collins) Fortune. Judy was raised and attended school in Sperry where she graduated from Sperry High School in 1958. After graduation, Judy was married and had two daughters, Carman and Jo Lynn. She was later married to Thomas R. Smothermon on October 21, 1967 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Cleveland and raised Carman and Jo Lynn there. Later the couple moved to the rural Hominy, Oklahoma area where they resided until the death of Tom on May 29, 1983. In February 1971, Judy accepted employment with the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services. She later was promoted to Manager of Human Resources at the Rader Treatment Center in Sand Springs, working in the juvenile retention center. Judy retired in 2000 after twenty-one years of service. After the death of her husband Tom, Judy relocated to Tulsa to be nearer her work and family. She was later married to Harold Cobb on February 24, 1989 and was married for over fifteen years prior to Mr. Cobbís death on April 17, 2004. Judy was an excellent pianist, learning to play at an early age and could play most anything by ear. She served as a church pianist for several years at the First Baptist Church in Owasso and filled in at many other Baptist Churchís throughout the area. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She loved to travel but especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participating in their sporting events. Entertaining family and friends at birthday parties was a big priority ensuring that each party included homemade ice cream. Judy was described by her family as an upbeat, charismatic and a funny lady who always tried to lift the spirits of those around her. She was light hearted and was always high on life. She enjoyed gospel music and was especially fond of the Gaithers and Karen Peck. While residing in Cleveland, Judy was a member of the First Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to Southern Hills Baptist Church in Tulsa. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday June 28, 2011 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Carman R. and James Robison of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Jo Lynn and Marty Turner of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Carly Thompson of Broken, Arrow, Allie McLeod of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jayme Turner of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jason Turner of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and two great grandsons, Hunter Thompson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Ian McLeod of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Maraget Ann Fortune and a sister, Allie Mae Huneryager.
