Joyce Addeane Skaggs

Graveside services for Joyce Addeane Skaggs will be held 12:00 pm Friday, August 12, 2016 at Resthaven Cemetery in Sperry, Oklahoma. Burial will conclude in the Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com


Joyce was born on September 16, 1942 in Sperry, Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Adley Warren and Blanche Lorraine (Rooks) Eddings. As a young girl Joyce moved with her parents to California where she began her education. She later completed her education in Sperry. Joyce returned to the Yuba City area in California. On September 5, 1966, Joyce was united in marriage to John “Taylor” Skaggs; the couple later moved their family to Los Angles. Joyce and Taylor later moved to White Deer, Texas in 1970. Following the death of Taylor and her son Wesley, Joyce remained in White Deer until 1981. In 1981, she returned back to the Tulsa area. Joyce started working at Coiffures Continental for a short time before opening her own salon, Salon One in Sperry, Oklahoma. Joyce operated the salon until her retirement in December of 2015.

Joyce loved being around her family and especially her grandchildren. Christmas was always a time she looked forward to especially decorating the Christmas tree and her home. Joyce also like to travel and always enjoyed going out to eat. Some of her favorite places to eat were Red Lobster, P.F. Chang’s, Texas Road House and Ricardo’s. Joyce is described as a very fashionable, dignified and classy lady. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always loved to cut up and play jokes on people. Joyce had many tomato plants and always enjoyed sharing those with her family and friends. One thing about Joyce is that she had an expensive taste for cars. Joyce was a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed by her family and friends who loved her immensely.

Joyce passed from this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 73 years old.

Survivors are her seven children John Taylor Skaggs II and his wife Linda of Arlington, Tennessee, Kevin Lane Skaggs and his wife Stacy of Moss Bluff, Louisiana, Zonda Elaine Stephenson and her husband James of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Bryon Dale Skaggs and his wife Marsha of Batavia, Ohio, Michael Evan Skaggs and his wife Jill of Burleson, Texas, Darin Vaughn Skaggs and his wife Vickey of Pacific, Missouri, C. Craig Skaggs and his wife Michelle of Sperry, Oklahoma; two sisters Phyllis Lindbloom of Linda, California, Sharon Gaines of Oklahoma; twenty two grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Taylor Skaggs, son Wesley Taylor Skaggs, brother William Warren Eddings and a grandson Zachary Skaggs.
