Joseph A Watts, Jr., known by family and friends as Butch, 61, Jennings resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the Cleveland Area Hospital, following a mobile home accident. Joe was born March 2, 1946 in Gonzales, Texas; the son of Joseph A. Watts, Sr. and Etta Pauline (Stebing) Watts.
Joe was raised and received his education in Central Texas. At the age of sixteen he moved to Hallett where he worked and resided with his brother, John for a few years; working for various employers and learning automobile mechanic work on the job. He also resided in Kerrville, Texas for a few years with his sister.
Joe was married to Hilda Schwanz on September 1, 1967 and the couple resided in California and Oklahoma for a few years before establishing their home in Seguin, Texas. The couple had four children, Jimmy, Roger, Cynthia and Shirely. Joe was employed for many years as a mechanic in Seguin at a local automobile dealership; medically retiring in the mid 1990s for health reasons. Upon his retirement, Joe continued to work a various odd jobs including rebuilding lawn movers, renovating vehicles and renovating homes. Joe moved to Jennings this past Thankssgiving to be nearer tohis brother and sister. Since residing near Jennings, Joe has been attending the First Baptist Church in Hallett.
Butch was known for his mechanical abilities, his compassionate and caring heart, his thoughtful and friendly attitude and his selfless and giving attitude toward others.
Joe is survived by his wife, Hilda of Seguin, Texas; two sons, Jimmy L. Watts of Ware Schoals, South Carolina and Roger J. Watts of Seguin, Texas; two daughters, Cynthia A. Watts of Seguin, Texas and Shirley A. Cole of Hardinsburg, Indiana; two sisters, Katherine Gutierrez of Austin, Texas and Bessie Watts of Jennings, Oklahoma; brother, John Watts of Jennings, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and one great grandson. Additionally, he is survived by a close griend and care giver, Rosie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Watts, Sr. and Etta Pauline Watts and a sister, Patricia Ann Gall.
Visitation for family and friends was held on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Following visitation, cremation was under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral. No funeral services are planned.
