Jonnie Lou May

Johnnie Lou May was born January 30, 1953 in Hominy, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of John and Pauline "Polly" (McNally) Nicholas. Johnnie was raised in Osage and received her early education there; later transferring to Prue where he graduated from Prue High School in 1971.

Shortly after graduation, Johnnie was married to John Marvin May on June 25, 1971 in Hominy, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Osage raising one son, Michael Allen. Johnnie attended cosmetology school in Cleveland and received her license as a hairdresser shortly after the couple's marriage. Although she operated Johnnie's Beauty Shop in Osage for nearly twenty-five years her priority was always maintaining a loving home for her husband and son.

While residing in Osage, Johnnie was a member of the First Baptist Church. The couple moved to Elkhart, Kansas in 2000 and then became members of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. Johnnie was active in the church, serving on numerous committees and teaching the teenage Sunday School Class. The love she exhibited for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was exhibited in her daily walk and she surrounded those around her with the same love.

Johnnie took great pride in her family; especially her grandchildren. She devoted her life to taking care of them and enjoyed spending every available minute with them. She also liked to fish when she had time.

Johnnie went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Continuous Care Center in Tulsa at the age of fifty-five. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Polly Nicolas; brother, Rusty Nicholas; and a sister, Georgia Jo Goodard.

She is survived by her husband of nearly thirty-seven years, John Marvin of the home in Elkhart, Kansas; a son, Michael Allen May of Elkhart, Kansas; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Kylee and Michael May, all of Elkhart, Kansas; and a sister and her husband, Judy and Danny Tilley of Cleveland, Oklahoma; numerous other nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

A celebration of life service for Johnnie Lou May will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Hominy.
