Johnnie Allen passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013, in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 62. John was born September 30, 1950, in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Harvey Buck and Thelma Jean (Couffer) Allen. He was raised in Hominy and had numerous jobs as a kid, such as working in the fields picking cotton and bailing hay. He received his education in the Hominy school system, where he later graduated with the Class of 1968 and became the Ping-Pong champion of Hominy in 1969. On December 24, 1971, John was united in marriage to Constance (Connie) Herring at the First Christian Church in Cleveland. Following their marriage, John and his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. John worked in the construction industry and for Bama Pie with his brother Buddy, before gaining employment with the U.S. Government at the Tulsa Downtown Post Office. John worked as a mail sorter and later worked as a stamp clerk: retiring in 2002 after nearly 24 years of employment. In the mid 1970Ãs John moved his family to Cleveland to the D & H division and later moved to his current home in the Crestview edition. John loved to travel, hunt, fish and watch sports. His favorite teams were the Hominy Bucks, University of Oklahoma Sooners, Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Yankees. Every evening you could find John reading newspapers and drinking coffee while relaxing after a hard days work. Traveling became one of JohnÃs favorite things to do with his family. Some of his most memorable trips were to Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, Hawaii and the Redwood Natural Forest. He also enjoyed short trips to Tunica, Mississippi. His favorite holiday was Independence Day. John really enjoyed sitting on the porch watching his kids and neighbors shoot off fireworks. John is survived by two children Mike Allen and Michelle Hughes both of Cleveland, Oklahoma; one brother Vernon "Buddy" Allen Moura of Terlton, Oklahoma, five grandchildren Dayci, Robert, Allison, Corbin Allen, Krysten Flurry and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Thelma and Harvey Allen; his wife Constance (Connie) Allen; son Travis Allen; brother, David Allen and a sister Shirley Moura. Services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Gregory Hall of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
