John Richard Moore

John Richard Moore

John R. Moore was born September 16, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas. He was the son of Ollie John and Anna Grace Moore. John was raised an received his early childhood education in Grenola, Kansas. He moved with his family in 1958 to Wynona where he graduated from Wynona High School in 1963.

Upon graduation from high school, John attended Bartlesville Business college where he studied accounting. In 1965, he accepted employment with Phillips Petroleum Company as an accountant and was employed there for nearly eleven years. He then accepted employment with Brown Brothers Drilling in Cleveland. In addition Phillips and Brown Brothers, John worked during his career in the oil business for Gearhart, J. M. Graves Oil Company and has worked for Spess Oil Company for the past twelve years.

John was extremely knowledgeable about the oil field and the oil business. He collected history books on the oil patch and related topics and planned his vacations around oil museums. He had many friends in the oil community throughout northeastern Oklahoma.

John passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at his home in Cleveland at the age of sixty years, one month and two days. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Moore.

John is survived by his three children, Shannon Rigsby and her husband Tim of Terlton, Oklahoma, Jerri Murders of Boliver, Missouri and John Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four sisters, Jane Johnson of Wynona, Oklahoma, Margaret Jean Thornton of Marlow, Oklahoma, Carol Neeley of Joshua, Texas and Patsy Lay of Wynona, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Sean Rigsby of Terlton, Oklahoma, Joseph Rigsby of Terlton, Oklahoma, Joshua Murders, Kendall Murders, Addison Murders and Anna Grace Murders, all of Boliver, Missouri, Kaleb Moore, Jacob Moore, Dustin Moore and Mackenzie Moore, all of Cleveland, Oklahoma; daughter in law, Amy Moore of Cleveland, Oklahoma; and the mother of their children, Virginia Davidson of Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the First Assembly of God in Cleveland with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Following cremation, a permanent memorial will be established in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland. Arrangement were under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
