Funeral services for John Nathan Fisher will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Alabama Baptist Church in Weleetka, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Barnett-Fisher Cemetery near Bryant, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. John was born on September 9, 1928 in Weleetka, Oklahoma. He was the son of William and Kogee (Simmer) Fisher. As a young child John grew up in the Weleetka area. At the conclusion of his education, he began helping his grandfather work on the farm. He worked as a farmer for many years in California and Beggs, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Roe on March 12, 1953 in Harrison, Arkansas. The couple established their initial home in Beggs where John continued farming. In the mid 1960Ãs, John moved his family to Bristow, Oklahoma where he gained employment in the oil field. In the 1970Ãs, they moved to Olive and remained in the area until the mid 1980Ãs. At that time John and Dorothy moved to Drumright where they have resided until recently when they moved to Jennings, Oklahoma. John loved to go fishing when he was able. He also loved the times his family and grandkids would get together. During the times he and Dorothy was younger they would square dance and he also played music with his brothers. John passed from this life on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Drumright Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years seven months and thirteen days. Survivors are his Dorothy of the home, three daughters Vera Lay of Jennings, Oklahoma, Nina Gilbert of Jennings, Oklahoma, Kogee Wilson of Jennings; three sons Johnny Fisher of Drumright, Oklahoma, Kenneth Fisher of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Charles VanMeter of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one brother Lawrence Fisher of Bristow, Oklahoma; one sister Kathy Anson of North Carolina, twenty two grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father William Fisher, mother Kogee Fisher, one son Joel Fisher in 1995, one grandson Douglas Rodebush 2000, six siblings Eli Fisher, Dave Fisher, Lige Fisher, Lizzie Scott, Alice Manning and Amos Fisher; eight step siblings Bill Fisher, Jim Fisher, Larry Fisher Pauline James, Esther Pleze, and twins Hanna and Jane Fisher.
