John Eldred Brown passed from this life on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of 76 years four months and twenty nine days. John was born June 29, 1936, in Miller, Missouri. He was on son of Virgil and Vera Mae (White) Brown. As a child John moved with his parents to Wayside, Kansas on a farm. He attended kindergarten at Sunnyside School and later graduated from Independence High School. During his time in high school John was a member of the tennis team. John was later introduced on a blind date through mutual friends to Janyce Hicks. The couple was later united in marriage on February 14, 1959, in Neodesha, Kansas. Following the coupleÃs marriage, John was an active part of the U.S. Army Reserves at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They made their home at Independence, Kansas and John gained employment with Guys Potato Chips. They later moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where John began working for Keebler. Later in 1972, John moved his family to Cleveland, Oklahoma where he accepted a position with Frito Lay. John worked for Frito Lay until his first retirement in 1992. As most people knew John could not be sedentary. He then began working for Spess Oil Company in the ìOil Patchî as a pumper. Several years later John began his own private enterprise reading meters for Indian Electric and the City of Cleveland. After many miles of walking through the hot, wet and dry yards of Cleveland, John was forced to retire from meter reading. John, still persistent on staying active began working part-time for Moore Healthcare Home Medical Supply. John was a very active servant at the First Christian Church. He held many capacities and most were unnoticed by many. John always prepared communion, brought donuts, and every Saturday mowed the lawn so it would look nice on Sunday. He was active in the bus ministry, kept and cleaned the buses just to name a few. John Brown was a ìSimple Manî, who loved his God, church and family dearly. During the time when John would relax, he loved being at his farm in Kansas and spending time with his uncles. John loved watching and listening to sports especially baseball. Baseball allowed him to take a nap and wake up and nothing much had changed. John was most proud of his children and grandchildren that he adored. Survivors are his loving wife Janyce of the home, three children Cheryl Rae Njaa and her husband Mark of Mesa, Arizona, Michael C. Brown and his wife Charlene of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Julie Ann Haney of Tulsa, Oklahoma, son in law Paul Haney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Grant, Kelsey, Mason, Katelyn, Madelyn, Morgan, Katie, Gracie, one great granddaughter Payten Rae and a host of other relatives, friends and church family. John was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Vera Brown. Church services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the First Christian Church with Pastor David Logsdon and Dakota Rush officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
