Memorial services for John Davidson of Mannford, Oklahoma will be held 10:00 am Friday June 13, 2003 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with services officiated by Pastor Bryan Haynes of the Lake Side Baptist Church in Mannford, Oklahoma.
John Davidson was born May 29, 1926 in Oakland, California to Charles and Birdie (Murphy) Davidson. John was raised and received his education in San Leandro, California. He was a Boy Scout for over 12 years joining in 1939. On June 2, 1944 John entered the United States Navy during World War II. He was later discharged from active duty on February 4, 1952. Upon his return to John gained employment with Pacific Gas and Electric. John was employed with Pacific Gas and Electric as a welder until he retired in 1982 with over 30 years of service. In January of 1976 John was united in marriage to Maxine (McBroom) at Mare Island, California. After their marriage they made their home in Spring Gap, California. John remained active in the United States Naval Reserve. He was later called back for a short tour during the Korean War. During his time in the military he served on the following ships: USS Cabildo, USCGC Taney, USS Iowa, USS Dore Hester and the USCGC Campbell. John also received the following medals: Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Area Medal, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. John retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve on May 29, 1986 as a Chief Steelworker of the Construction Battalion also know as the C.BÃs.
In 1982 when John retired from Pacific Gas and Electric he moved to Mannford, Oklahoma. In 1998 John bought a travel trailer. He started to travel with his friends and family; traveling to numerous states as well as Canada. During the winters he would stay in either in Gulf Port, Mississippi or Ocean Springs, Mississippi. During this time John made Mannford, Oklahoma his home. John started to work for the Mannford ISD as a bus driver for over 10 years, all of the kids knew John as Gramps. When he had spare time John would worke in the garden, do wood working and was also a avid fan of NASCAR Racing.
John passed away June 9, 2003 at Mannford, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years and 10 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Birdie, wife Maxine, son John Gregory Davidson, grandson Shane Michael Bradshaw, grandaughter Lee Ann and a stepson Alan Ray Bradshaw.
Survived by his children, Mary Margaret and husband Clavin Roque of Wheatland, California; Victoria Elizabeth Roque of Hayward, California; Phyllis Ann Davidson of San Leandro, California; step children, Michael Joe and wife Sheri Bradshaw of Mannford, Oklahoma; Steven Eugene and wife Sherry Bradshaw of Mannford, Oklahoma; Robert Lee and wife Sandy Bradshaw of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Anthony, Dannielle, Amanda, Jessica, Jennifer, Lisa, Richard, Jeff and Ashley, Joe, David, Michael and Cindy, Michelle, Tonya, LaTosha, Brian, Jesse & Timothy, ten great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
