John Caves

Mr. John Alfred Caves, 86, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, passed from this life on February 1, 2025.

John was born on March 7, 1938, in Indianola, Oklahoma, the son of Clarence William and Malta Govottie (Owen) Caves. John grew up and attended school in Osage, Oklahoma, and graduated as Valedictorian with the Class of 1955. John joined the United States Army National Guard in October of 1955, serving his country until April of 1968. John was united in marriage to Judy Vance Thomas on October 2, 1957, in Hominy, Oklahoma. John and Judy initially resided in Claremore, where he worked for Southwestern Bell as a splicer's helper. He worked throughout Oklahoma, retiring as the District Manager Engineer after 31 years and 10 months.

John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and competitive sports and was an avid OU fan. He and Judy always enjoyed going to their lake home at Beaver Lake. John also enjoyed traveling and took many bus tours throughout the United States. John has always enjoyed taking his grandsons on yearly fishing trips to Canada.

Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Judy of the home, three children Kathy Wood and husband Clifton of Bixby, Oklahoma, Loren Caves and wife Cindy, Sue Ann Sills and husband Tim of Collinsville, Oklahoma; grandchildren Johnathan Caves and wife Bryanne, Thomas Wood and wife Victoria, Andrew Wood and wife Courtney, Stuart Wood and wife Allison, Nick Sills and Brittany Conner, Molly Tillman and husband Malcolm; great grandchildren Evalynn, Remington, Magnolia, Conner and Chloe and a host of other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Malta Caves; one brother, Clarence Caves; and sisters, Marqueta Faught and Marie Besser.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel, with Chaplain Roger Sheppard officiating. Burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery Chapel at Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
