JoAnn Hewitt, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at her home south of Cleveland at the age of 78 years, eleven months and six days. She was preceded in death by her parents Neil James, Sr. and Cleora Swan, husband Ted Hewitt, brother Neil James Swan, Jr., Clarence David Swan; two sisters Suzanne Swan and Wilma Lee Eisenhour. JoAnn was born on July 27, 1935, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Neil James, Sr. and Cleora Irene (McAffrey) Swan. As a young girl JoAnn grew up and attended Cleveland Schools later graduating with the Class of 1953. During her time in school JoAnn was an active part of the basketball team. Following graduation JoAnn began working in Hominy at Munsingwear. She was later united in marriage to the love of her life William Theodore Hewitt, Jr. on October 28, 1955, at the First Christian Church. The two soon purchased their current home in December of 1955. JoAnn started working in Tulsa, Oklahoma for Amerada Hess Corporation. She worked as a secretary for many years before accepting employment at the Cleveland Bank. JoAnn worked there for over 20 years when she retired. JoAnn not happy with retirement; accepted employment at Security Bank in Pawnee. She continued working there until 1998. JoAnn enjoyed traveling. Some of the trips she talked about were to Pikes Peak, Padre Island, South Carolina as well as the Grand Canyon. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed watching and feeding Hummingbirds. JoAnn also crocheted and knitted many items for her friends and family. JoAnn was notoriously in a hurry. She was always pulled over by the police; however, she was never breaking the law according to her. JoAnn loved her family and kids dearly and was very avid about traveling and watching Dakota from little league sports thru high school. Survivors are her children Tammy Crazy Bear of Terlton, Oklahoma, Neil Hewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Suzanne Doyle of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Teddie Jo Hewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Dakota Hewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two brothers John R. Swan of Rogers, Arkansas, Jerry Swan of Owasso, Oklahoma; sister Donna Cable of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren Ethan and Andrea Doyle and Gary Burris III as well as numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. Chapel Services will be held 10:30 am Monday, July 7, 2014 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Pastor Pam Buzzard officiating. Following the services the body will be cremated and later interred in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
