Jo Ann Turner passed from this life on March 30, 2022, at the age of 90, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Jo Ann was born on July 27, 1931, in Perkins, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of daughter of Roy Lawrence and Easter Jewel (Gage) Lawrence. Jo Ann grew up and attended school in Pawnee, Oklahoma, where she graduated high school. Jo Ann attended Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma, following high school, and she attended and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. On August 31, 1951, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, Jo Ann was united in marriage to John Robert Turner, Sr. Following Lieutenant Turner's discharge, the couple established their home in Pawnee in 1954 before moving to Ponca City. Jo Ann later began teaching at the Ponca City High School, retiring in 1982. In 1986, Jo Ann and John moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma, where she has continued to reside until recently.
Jo Ann enjoyed oil painting, and she would often paint portraits, outdoor scenes, and numerous other objects that caught her eye. Jo Ann also loved to travel with John and her family, never turning down the opportunity to see a new place. She is described as a very strong and opinionated person with a get it done attitude. Jo Ann was also a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church in Cleveland.
She is survived by her two sons John Robert Turner, Jr. of Norman, Oklahoma, Dwight Lawrence Turner and his wife LaDonna of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a daughter and her husband, Lynnice and Joe Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren, Clint Turner, Lance Turner, Skyler Turner, and Zane Turner, Stephen Taylor, JoLynn Wanzor, John Taylor, eight great grandchildren, one sister Treca Pritner of Kansas City, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, John Robert, Sr, son Joe Brent Turner and a brother Jack Lawrence.
Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 4, 2022, in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation at 10:00 am. Burial will be held in the Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
