Jerry Sebert

Jerry Allen Sebert was born on February 12, 1944, in Nowata, Oklahoma, the son of Alfred and Eva (Jansen) Sebert. Jerry grew up and attended school in Nowata, graduating with the class of 1962. In August of 1967, following his education, Jerry joined the United States Air Force. Jerry was stationed at the Langley Airforce base in Hampton, Virginia, as well as Okinawa, Guam, and Germany. In January 1972, Staff Sergeant Jerry Sebert was honorably discharged.

On January 21, 1972, Jerry was united in marriage to Doris Jane Keeney in Somerset, Kentucky. The couple established their initial home in Nowata, Oklahoma, and during this time Jerry worked in the oil fields for several years. Jerry enrolled at Tri-County Tech learning the trade of autobody painting and repair. Jerry operated a body repair shop in Nowata for a short time before moving to Hominy, Oklahoma, where he established Sebert Body Shop in 1976 which remained open for over 32 years until Jerry retired and closed his operation.

Jerry enjoyed fishing, working in his garden, and woodworking. He also loved smoking meats and cooking, but his family was the light of his life. Jerry and Doris took vacations back to Kentucky to see family and explore the state while they were there.

Jerry and Doris have been members of the First Christian Church for over 30 years and during this time Jerry served the church in many ways. He was a Deacon, helped with the Junior Church, taught fourth and fifth-grade boys Sunday School classes, and he even helped with the bus ministry for many years. Jerry was also a former member of the American Legion.
