Funeral services for Jerry Melton Surrett, 59, will be held 10:00 am Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma with Rev. Mark Formby officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will include Ronnie Surrett, Jr., Brian Surrett, Matthew Tilley, Jeremy Surrett, Chris Surrett and Brian Elliot. Jerry was born April 26, 1950 in Hominy, Oklahoma, the twin son of Clyde and Velma Glois (Elliott) Surrett. As a young child Jerry was raised and began his education in Prue, Oklahoma. He continued his education in Prue and later graduated with the Class of 1968. During his time in high school Jerry was very active in sports which include basketball, baseball and volleyball. After he completed his education, Jerry joined the United States National Guard with his twin brother Gary on the ìBuddy Programî. The two of them served their country until the mid 1970Ãs when they were honorably discharged. Jerry then returned to Hominy where he began working at the local automotive parts store. He also worked part-time at the Phillips 66 full service gas station in town. Jerry soon moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma when he gained employment with Oklahoma Natural Gas. He worked as meter reader for several years before accepting employment with Sheffield Steel. Jerry worked at the steel plant in Sand Springs, until he accepted a position with Wheatly Pump. In 1985, Jerry left Wheatly and gained employment with Williams in the pipeline division. During his time with Williams, Jerry was a pipeline inspector. The company later sold to Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline and Jerry continued to work there until he started working as an independent inspector. During his time as an independent inspector he worked for Tulsa Inspection and was currently working for Quality Inspection Service. Jerry has traveled throughout the United States inspecting numerous projects and pipelines. Jerry cherished the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren. He was also one that would help you out if you were in a bind without a care of your circumstances. You could always count on Jerry having one of the flashiest vehicles decked out with chrome. He always loved coming home during the holidays but he would soon return to work feeling the need to provide for his family. On October 25, 1959, Jerry was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Prue. Jerry will be sorely missed by his family and friends that loved him dearly. On Tuesday, November 3, 2009 in Kansas City, Missouri, Jerry went to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 59 years. Survivors are his two sons Jason Surrett and his wife Kristi of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Andrew Surrett and his wife Courtney of Glenpool, Oklahoma, two brothers Gary Surrett his twin of Dewey, Oklahoma, Ronald Surrett of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; one sister Shirley Tyler of Hominy, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Cade and Peyton Surrett as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Surrett.
