Jerry Dean Shipman, Sr., 70, passed from this life on November 17, 2019, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Born November 14, 1949, in Hominy, Oklahoma, Jerry is the son of Harlan Leon and Georgia Delora (Stroud) Shipman. Attending Cleveland Schools, Jerry graduated with the class of 1968. While in high school, Jerry ran track and showed chickens in the FFA. Following his education, Jerry joined the Air Force. Private Shipman was honorably discharged on November 22, 1968, due to medical reasons. After his discharge, Jerry began working for Pepsi Cola, working on vending machines. On July 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to Linda Mae Shipman at Western Heights Baptist Church. The couple celebrated 49 years together earlier this year. Later, Jerry took employment with Osage Oil, then Swindler Oil Company as a pumper. From there, he began his own Roustabout company, Jerry’s Roustabout, which he held for many years.
Jerry would tell stories of his life in detail. He would spend his free time deer hunting and fishing, and taking monthly trips to Branson, staying at Jellystone. Westerns were his favorite television shows. He had no problem telling you his opinion.
Survivors include his wife Linda of the home; two children, Jerry Dean Shipman, Jr. and his wife Shawna of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Ranae Coffey and her fiancé, Derrick Steenken of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; sister Lahoma McAfee and her husband Larry of Cleveland, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Brooklynn Shipman, Megan Weber, Haley Pettit Coffey, Madison Weber, Jacob Pettit Coffey, Sydney “Cindy” Shipman, Reagan Coffey, and Kruz Coffey; and one great-granddaughter Zemry Gipson. Also surviving Jerry are numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Georgia Shipman; a brother, Terry Shipman; a sister, Debbie Moura; and a daughter Shanna Weber.
A visitation will be held for Jerry on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. A life celebration will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Jerry will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
