Memorial services for Janyce Virginia Brown, will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the First Christian Church with David Logsdon officiating. Following cremation interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Janyce was born on August 7, 1939 in Neodesha, Kansas. She was the daughter of Loren Earl and Eva Virginia (Redington) Hicks. Janyce grew up on the family farm and attended school in Neodesha. She later graduated from Neodesha High School with the Class of 1957. Following high school Janyce enrolled at Pittsburg College majoring in music. Janyce was introduced to the love of her life John Eldred Brown through mutual friends on a blind date. The couple was later united in marriage on February 14, 1959, in Neodesha, Kansas. The couple later moved to Independence, Kansas prior to moving to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Janyce and John moved their family to Cleveland in 1972, where she has continued to reside. During her time in Cleveland Janyce was an active part of the community. She volunteered for many groups and organizations and owned and operated JanyceÃs Paintinà Parlor. She had painting supplies and taught many classes of painting as well as other crafts including macramÈ. Janyce also worked for BayouthÃs Department Store for many years until its closure. Janyce loved to sing and was very active in her church at First Christian Church. She was a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher as well as helped organize many Wednesday dinners. Janyce was an avid reader which included titles from Christian based books to science fiction. Janyce enjoyed and often referred to the times going with the ìBirthday Clubî with the ladies. She loved being outdoors and spending time on her patio watching the birds. Most of all in life Janyce loved her Lord and family emensly and was the best mother and mimi anyone could have. Survivors are her three children Cheryl Rae Njaa and her husband Mark of Mesa, Arizona, Michael C. Brown and his wife Charlene of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Julie Ann Haney of Tulsa, Oklahoma, son in law Paul Haney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Grant, Kelsey, Mason, Katelyn, Madelyn, Morgan, Katie, Gracie, one great granddaughter Payten Rae, sister Marsha Smith of Cleveland, Oklahoma, brother Dwyane Hicks of Neodesha, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents Janyce was preceded in death by her husband John Brown on November 27, 2012.
