Janis Lavonne Horton

Janis Lavonne Horton passed from this life on December 7, 2021, at the age of 70 in Hominy, Oklahoma.

On January 20, 1951, Janis was born in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank O., Sr., and Mary Bobbie Jean (Tinsley) Metzger. Jan grew up and attended school in Hominy, where she completed her education. After high school, Jan remained in Hominy for a short time and was united in marriage to Robert A. Bashaw on July 11, 1968, making their home in Enid, Oklahoma, and to that union, there are two sons Robert and Troy. Jan later returned to Hominy in 1984. On June 8, 1985, Jan was united in marriage to J. Dale Horton, and to that union, there is one daughter Kathryn. Following their marriage, the two operated Horton Tool Corp. side by side as a team. Jan and Dale loved to take trips, especially to Tunica. The two enjoyed each other's company while traveling to their next endeavor until his death in 2011.

Jan loved spending Christmas vacations with her family in Branson and at the Great Wolf Lodge. Jan always enjoyed visiting with family and friends while enjoying a good cup of coffee. Jan took joy in cooking for her family and friends as well as listening to all genres of music. Talking about her children and grandchildren was always a highlight of her day. Jan was quick-witted and the queen of epic one-liners. She was always available to listen and give advice or encouragement to friends and family.

Survivors are her three children Robert Bashaw and his wife Misty of Yukon, Oklahoma, Troy Bashaw and his wife Krystal of Hominy, Oklahoma, Kathryn Robinson and her husband Hershal of Hominy, Oklahoma; one brother David Metzger and his wife Lisa of Hominy, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren Reece, Barton, Kendra, Elizabeth, Abigail, Thomas, Ashlynn, Garrett, Whitney, T.J., six great grandchildren Bear, Colt, Journey, Bentley, Risley, and Jayde, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her husband Dale, one brother Frank O. Metzger Jr., and one grandson Dariel Horton.

Services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Church of the Nazarene in Hominy, Oklahoma, with Wayne Brown and Steve Clemishire officiating services. Burial will be held in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery at Hominy, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
