Janet Rae Pierce of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, age 76 years died Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at her home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
Janet was born August 5, 1941, in Ozark, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Andy and Reba Irene (Wright) Anderson. As a young girl, Janet moved with her family to California. They later returned and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was during this time Janet began attending John Marshall Elementary. She also attended Mann Junior High then graduating from Edison High School. Following the completion of her education, she accepted employment as a secretary in the Warren Building. She soon met the love of her life Samuel Joseph Pierce. The two were united in marriage on June 18, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Easter weekend in 1977, Janet and Sam moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma where they raised their two children Randy and Angela. During that time Janet and Sam built their home in Rock Ridge where they lived for nearly 25 years. During the time Janet resided in Cleveland, she worked for Four Seasons Dress Shop, Ramona Flowers which she later purchased in 1984 and renamed it to Janet’s Flowers. Janet operated the flower shop until she sold the operation in 2000. At that time Janet began traveling with her husband Sam going all over the world with his job. In 2000, the two made their home near Houston, Texas for nearly 15 years. In 2015, Janet and Sam returned to Oklahoma purchasing their home in Sand Springs for the past two years.
Shopping, traveling and visiting casinos was what Janet enjoyed. Las Vegas, Redondo Beach, California and Palm Springs were her favorite places to visit. Janet was the one that always drove when they got into the car and always had a great sense of direction. The flip side to Janet driving was she always took the long way home. Decorating her home was something she loved doing as well. She had decorations for every occasion and holiday. Jamil’s was her favorite place to eat. Janet was always the life of the part and had an infectious laugh. Janet loved having her family together whenever possible. One place she never got to visit but dreamed of going to Italy.
Survivors are her husband, Sam of the home; two children Angela Harmon and her husband George of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Randy Pierce and his wife Elizabeth of Cleveland, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Brad Harmon and his wife Amanda of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Lindsey Harmon of Galveston, Texas, Christopher Pierce of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Samuel Pierce of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Valerie Russell of Rockford, Illinois, Eugenia Maker of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great grandchildren Evie Harmon, Maddox West, Olivia West and Jeremey Russell as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Andy and Reba Anderson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
