Reverend James William Wright passed from this life on August 7, 2022, at 84.
J.W. was born on March 25, 1938, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the son of William Bryant and Alta Sybil (Sizemore) Wright. J.W. attended school at Union, Keystone, and Sand Springs. Following the completion of his education, he began working at Tulsa Greenhouse. J.W. then began operating heavy equipment for his father-in-law before gaining the supervisor position for Flo-Bend. On November 22, 1958, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, J.W. was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Bruton. Following their marriage, J.W. and Beverly established their home in Sand Springs.
In the early 1970s, J.W. became licensed with the Assemblies of God. In May of 1974, Pastor J.W. and Beverly moved their family to Jennings, Oklahoma, where the family began their ministry in 1973. During their 41 years of pastoring in Jennings, Oklahoma they accomplished implementing a school, numerous building projects, two sanctuaries, and supporting mission projects throughout the World. He also made two mission trips to Africa with C.C Harris and many trips to Mexico and Guatemala, leading people to the Lord. In 2014, Pastor J.W. retired but remained to spread the Gospel as interim pastor at Drumright Assembly of God and Keystone General Baptist Church.
J.W. worked for many years as a carpenter, plumber, and electrician. He would help numerous people in need and also worked on building homes and remodeling projects. J.W. was also a big supporter of missions and Israel for many years. Going fishing with his brothers was always a memorable event. He always looked forward to the Wright family's Thanksgiving and Memorial Day events. In 2014, J.W. and Beverly started the Wright and Karr Family Reunions on the Fourth of July.
Survivors are his wife Beverly of 63 years, three children Curtis Wright and his wife Angela of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Kathy Staley and her husband Steve of Jennings, Oklahoma; Kevin Wright and his wife Audrey of Jennings, Oklahoma; three siblings Henry Wright of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Clarence Wright of Guatemala, Vera Poplin of Coweta, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren Amber & Husband Brian, Dustin & wife Amanda, Brittney & husband Caleb, Breanna & husband Jacob, Nathan & wife Priscilla, Joel & wife Lauren, Ashley & husband Daran, Kaleb & wife Chloe; seventeen great grandchildren, Allison, Hannah, Drew, Alex, Nathan, Esther, Paige, Aiden, Abigail, Annistyn, Paris, Rebekah, Henry, Asher, Reichen, Oliver, Wynter, with one great-grandson that is due in September William that will carry on the Wright name. J.W. was preceded in death by his parents W.B. and Alta Wright, siblings Mary, Flora, Delphia, Franklin, Ollie, Jessie, and one great-granddaughter, Alexa Grace.
Services will be held at 10:00 am, August 13, 2022, at the James Hubbard Event Center in Jennings, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Jennings Cemetery at Jennings, Oklahoma.
