James Roy Carmack

James Roy Carmack, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 64 years, eleven months and three days. James was born September 27, 1949, in Marked Tree, Arkansas. He was the son of Edgar Lee and Dorothy Helen (Adams) Carmack. James grew up in Marked Tree and later moved with his family to Bakersfield, California. During his time in Bakersfield James graduated from high school. Soon after high school James joined the United States Navy. Following his basic training James was stationed aboard the USS Tanner and served his time in the Pacific during the Vietnam War. James was honorably discharged on August 11, 1969 and during his time enlisted James was awarded the following decorations and citations: National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon as well as the Vietnam Service Medal. James was united in marriage on November 29, 1969 in Bakersfield, California to Patricia Ann Pache. The couple established their initial home in Bakersfield and soon moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1970. During their time in Broken Arrow, James was employed at Temple Manufacturing. Later in 1975, James moved his family to Collinsville where they remained until 1980. In 1980, James and Patricia moved to their current home in Cleveland. James enjoyed hunting and fishing as long as he was catching something. He also enjoyed working on cars. Camping was his favorite pastime other than watching John Wayne movies. Survivors are his wife Patricia of the home, two daughters Shannen Kay Johnson of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Shelia LaRae Fields and her husband Ben of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two brothers Roger Carmack of Ramona, Oklahoma, Tommy Carmack of Poteau, Oklahoma; one sister Donna Boardman of Collinsville, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Preston Johnson, Lynnzey Johnson, Gabby Fields and Mason Fields as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Edgar Carmack; mother Dorothy Carmack; two brothers Gary Carmack, Harvey Carmack as well as one sister Margaret Thomas. Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
