James LaMar Powell, Jr. was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was the son of James and Helen (Carothers) Powell. He resided at an early age with his family in Ripley where he attended his early education. He later moved with his family to Fort Worth, Texas for a short time before moving to Sedan, Kansas where he completed his education at Sedan High School.
Upon completion of his education, James moved to Osage, Oklahoma. He worked for several years for the Liberty Glass Company in Sapulpa, Oklahoma for many years. He later relocated to Cushing where he resided for nearly fifteen years although he moved to California for a short time. After returning to Cushing, James started receiving Social Security Disability. For the last years, James has been residing at the Tulsa Day Center where he passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the age of sixty-three.
James enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially like drifting down the lake. He also enjoyed drinking an occasional beer while playing pool with his friends and family. He was a San Francisco Forty-Niner fan and enjoyed Oklahoma University Athletics. James could often be found listening to Country Western Music. James has three children, Stephanie,. James and Christopher.
He is survived by his three children, Stephanie Cates of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, James “Boadie” Powell, III of Hominy, Oklahoma, Christopher Powell of Rockford, Illinois; two brothers, Billy C. Sloan, Jr. of Osage, Oklahoma and Frank Powell of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Teri Saturnio of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Geneva Bodiford of Osage, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, James Powell, Sr.; mother, Helen Irene Sloan; grandfather, George Carothers; and his grandmother, Mona Carothers.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. No public services will be held.
