James Don Shoup, a resident of Clinton Township, Michigan was born October 9, 1953 in Cushing, Oklahoma the son of James Eugene and Frances Pauline (Gaines) Shoup. At a young age Don moved with his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he started school. He later moved in 1960, with his family to Argentina, Singapore and later to Egypt where he graduated high school. Upon his graduation he returned to the United States and enrolled at Oklahoma University in 1971. On February 14, 1977 he was united in marriage to Yamina (Roman) and to this union there are three children Paula, Carla and James J. In 1984, Don and Yamina moved to Houston and then to Detroit in 1986. Don then accepted a position with Minowitz Manufacturing Company where he has been employed for the past 21 years. Don was very conscientious about his job, always trying to make sure he was doing his best. He was awarded a Medal from the United States Military as a civilian for his efficiency.
Don was a very devoted father to his children; wanting to spend every minute available with them. He also had a passion to read anything that would expand his knowledge.
Don passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 at his home in Clinton Township, Michigan at the age of 53 years 11 months and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and sister Terri Carter in 2004.
Surviving are his loving parents, James and Frances Shoup of Houston, Texas; three children, Paula Shoup of Great Falls, Montana; Carla Shoup of Harrison Township, Michigan; James J. Shoup of Harrison Township, Michigan; one sister, Linda Pounds of Norman, Oklahoma; former wife, Yamina Davidson of Harrison Township, Michigan and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held Friday, September 28, 2007 at 10:30 am in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery with Pastor David Logsdon officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
