Jackie Clark

Jackie Lee Clark was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on May 23, 1930 the son of Jesse Leeroy and Nina Edna (Dicketts) Clark. During the time Jackie was growing up he attended Saint Patrickís Catholic Mission in Anadarko before moving to California. When he moved to California he attended junior high school in California during WWII. He then returned to graduate high school in Eunice, New Mexico. During the time in high school, Jackie was the captain of the basketball team, assistant captain of the football team. He also played on the New Mexico State Tennis Doubles Championship. Jackie enlisted into the service of his country with the United States Army. He served valiantly for 2 years 11 months and 29 days in the Panama Canal. Corporal Jackie Clark was honorably discharged on November 24, 1952. Jackie was united in marriage to Clara Zoe Hurt on January 11, 1952. They were later sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on June 2, 1965 and were married for 56 years and 11 months. Jackie worked in the oil fields of New Mexico, Wyoming and Texas for El Paso Natural Gas for 10 yrs and later accepted employment with Phillips Petroleum. He worked for Phillips for over 20 years at his retirement. Mr. Clark was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Blackwell, Oklahoma on December 24, 1962. He enjoyed serving in many callings at the church including Scoutmaster, Assistant High Priest Group Leader, Stake Mission Leader and in Branch Presidencies. Jackie was an avid reader of the scriptures; and additionally enjoyed reading history and western lore. Jackie was also a CLEET Certified reserve Pawnee County Deputy under Sheriff Leroy Bryant for several years. Jackie died on January 3, 2009 in Tulsa Oklahoma at the age of seventy-eight. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Rocky Jack Clark and a brother Gary Clark. Survivors include his loving wife Zoe Hurt Clark of the home, two daughters Debra Clark Eckel and her husband Floyd of Garland Texas, Ronda Clark Barnett and her husband Michael of Austin Texas; grandchildren Jeremy Davis Brown and his wife Mary of Austin Texas, Jessica Eckel Blad and her husband Shawn of Flower Mound, Texas, Nicholas Eckel of Dallas Texas, Kathryn Eckel of Forney Texas; four great grandsons Ian, Evan, Aiden, Gavin as well as a host of other cousins, nieces and nephews.
