Jack Lee McElroy was born May 3, 1937 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Cleo and Delphia McElroy. Jack moved with his family often during his childhood throughout the Central and Western United States. He returned in Oklahoma during high school and graduated from Webster High School in 1955.
Upon graduation from high school, Jack worked at various jobs prior to his enlistment in the United States Army on September 8, 1961. Jack served honorably in the United States Army for over two years being discharged on September 6, 1963. Upon completion of his active military service, Jack was transferred to the United States Army Reserve where he continued to serve until September 7, 1967.
Jack was employed for over twenty years in the engineering department of Public Service of Oklahoma (PSO), where he maintained electrical right of way information. Upon his retirement from PSO, Jack moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was employed for nearly fifteen years as a car salesman. He then returned to Oklahoma to Wetumka and then later moved to Checotah. Jack moved to Cleveland in 1995 and has resided here until he passed away on Monday, October 27, 2003 at the Pawnee Municipal Hospital at the age of sixty-six years, five months and twenty-four days. He was preceded in death by his father and a sisters, June McElroy.
Jack is survived by his mother, Delphia Jacobs, Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sons, Jack McElroy, Cleveland, Oklahoma and Michael McElroy, Las Lunas, New Mexico; daughter, Debbie Fitts, Wann, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 30, 2003 at the Checotah City Cemetery in Checotah. Burial will be under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
