Jack Burlson Smith passed from this life on September 3, 2021, at the age of 81.
Jack was born on January 16, 1940, in Marianna, Arkansas; the son of Belva Smith. At a young age Jack and his mother moved to Pico Rivera, California. Jack attended school in Pico Rivera later graduating from El Rancho High School. Following his education Jack began working as a butcher at a local meat counter Red's Meat. In May of 1962, Jack joined the United States Army during that time he was united in marriage to Renata and to that union there are three children James, Lynn and Debbie. Jack served his time in Berlin until he was discharged in November of 1965. Upon his discharge Jack returned to Pico Rivera where he continued his profession as a butcher. 1977, Jack remarried to Marie Vera gaining an additional three children Ruth, Becky and Rachel. Later on January 18, 1992, Jack was once again married to Merrita Bridge in Las Vegas, Nevada gaining one son Mike Brennan, Sr. In 2005, Jack and Merrita moved to Cleveland where he has continued to reside.
Jack loved going fishing, camping and boating. He spent many hours on the bank of the lakes and rivers with his friends and family. Jack was very friendly and outgoing never meeting a stranger. He was a loyal, hardworking dedicated father to his children.
Survivors are wife Merrita of the home, children Michael Brennan, Sr. and his wife Gloria of Seymore, Missouri, Lynn Mack and her husband David of Fullerton, California, Debbie Sisson and her husband Donald of Union Grove, Alabama, Ruth Mercurio and her husband Frank of San Diego, California; daughter in law Shannon VanBuskirk of Wildomar, California; siblings Dennis Hillard of Nuevo, California, Melinda Eriksen of Whittier, California, Anita Menser of Whittier, California; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his mother Belva Menser, sister Patricia Smith and a son James Floyd VanBuskirk.
Services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Nazarene Church in Cleveland with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery at Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
