During his time in high school Jack was a member of the basketball team and served as the team captain. Soon after high school, Jack began working for Katy Railroad and operated the telegraph system. During this time, he received the following decorations: Japan Army Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Sharp Shooter Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

Following his discharge, Jack returned to the Osage area and was united in marriage to the love of his life Dorothy L. Grimes on August 14, 1952. While working and going to college, the couple established their initial home in Oklahoma City. May 26, 1960, Jack received his BS in Business Education with a minor in Economics from Central State University. Jack gained employment with Armerada Oil. Jack was a board member of the Operation Round Up at the Indian Electric Co-op for many years as well as a CASA advocate. Jack was the head elder of the Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist church. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, jogging and walking. It was not uncommon for Jack to walk to town from his home for things instead of taking a drive. Things that meant the most to Jack were his wife, children and grandchildren who meant the world to him.
