Iva Marie Cox was born November 24, 1911 in Garfield, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Edward Monroe and Ada Mitchell. She was raised attended school in the Garfield area. Her mother passed away when Iva was young and she was raised by her step-mother.
Iva was married to Jesse Maurice Morris Cox in Britewater, Arkansas on February 26, 1928. The couple moved to Cleveland shortly after their marriage and had one son, Harold. Iva worked as a cook in various restaurants in the Cleveland area including, Katie's and Ward's.
Morris preceded her in death on August 8, 1986. In addition to her husband, Iva was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Hurley Mitchell, Rudolph Warren and Bryant Mitchell; and a sister, Blanche Ponce.
Iva was a member of the First Baptist Church and continued to resided in Cleveland until October 12, 2001 when for health reasons she was admitted to the Drumright Nursing Home. She passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the Drumright Nursing Home at the age of ninety-one years, eight months and five days.
Iva is survived by her son and his wife, Harold and Louise Cox of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two granddaughters and their husbands, Stacy and Brad Weldon of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Leigh Ann and John Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and three great-grandchildren, Cassie Gilbert of Stillwater, Evan and Hannah Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery.
