Irma Nadine Collins, lifelong Terlton area resident, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the Cimarron Pointe Care Center in Mannford, at the age of seventy-eight years, nine months and eighteen days.
Irma was born February 9, 1927 in Jennings, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of William Theodore and Mary Mae (Tompkins) Hewitt. She moved with her family at an early age to the Terlton area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Terlton High School in 1945.
Shortly after graduation from high school, Irma worked for Boeing Aircraft as part of the war effort and then later for McDonald Douglas in Wichita. She was married to Clarence Nelson Collins in Wellington, Kansas on March 30, 1946. The couple made their initial home in the Cleveland/Terlton area near Dog Center. They had operated a farm together for nearly three years when Clarence accepted a job and moved to Tulsa. They returned to Terlton in 1957 and raised their five children, Larry, Tommy, Stan, Linda and Mary Ann. While residing in Terlton, Irma served as a cook for the Terlton School System for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence on September 3, 1993.
Irma has been a faithful member of the family of Christ for most of her life and spent countless hours reading and enjoying the bible. She was a member of the Crossroads Full Gospel Church in Tulsa. Irma loved attending church and fellowship with her brothers and sisters in Christ. Additionally, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook and also was an avid bird watcher; providing feeders for the birds throughout her yard.
Irma is survived by five children and their spouses, Larry and Jane Collins of Mannford, Oklahoma, Tommy and Carol Collins of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Rev. Stan and Joy Collins of Steeleville, Missouri, Linda and Bill Nelson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Mary Ann and Rev. Erick Goodman of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred Weslie Hewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Albert Leslie Hewitt of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Wm. Theodore (Ted) Hewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma; and a sister, Madelyn Carol Woodrell of Cleveland, Oklahoma. In addition to her husband, Irma was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Naomi Ruth Robinson, Peggy Colleen Pruitt and Ellen Mae Wilcox; granddaughter, Christy Lynn Collins and a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Dawn Goodman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m, Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the First of Assembly of God Church in Cleveland with Rev. Stan Collins, Rev. Erick Goodman and Rev. J. B. Tiner officiating. Burial will be at the Dixie-Bear Creek Cemetery, south of Cleveland under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Serving as pall bears will be Greg Collins, Jeff Collins, Kyle Collins, Erick Goodman, Jr., Donald Bowden, Paul Albert, Kevin Nelson, Rob Dean and Riley Goodman.
