ldie Louis Varnell, 76, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ildie was born August 10, 1931 in Mannford, the son of Ival Ray and Juanita Pauline (Hensley) Varnell. As a young boy Ildie was raised and grew up in the Old Mannford Area, where he attended school until the age of 12. At that time Ildie began helping his family provide for his other siblings, delivering milk and other goods to local families in Old Mannford. On February 14, 1951, Ildie entered into the service of his country during the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged on February 8, 1954. Upon his return to the U.S., Ildie was united in marriage Bonnie Lou Butler on August 7, 1954. They established their initial home in the Old Mannford Area where they raised their four children. Upon the installation of Keystone Dam Ildie and Bonnie moved to New Mannford where they remained until 1976. Ildie began working as a welder's helper then later as a welder. Ildie traveled through out the U.S. following the repairs and constructions of pipelines and refineries for over 30 years. He was currently employed as an Inspector. In 1990, Ildie moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma at his current residence.
Enjoyed gardening and working on cars however, Mr. Varnell cherished the time spent with his family and dogs.
Survivors are his four children Phyllis Carter of Mannford, Oklahoma; Ronnie Varnell of Catoosa, Oklahoma, Karen Chapman of Terlton, Oklahoma, Glenda Prince of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two brothers Tony Varnell of Mannford, Oklahoma, Dwight Varnell of Blackburn, Oklahoma; two sisters Betty Putt of Rockingdale, California, Gail Moreino of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Ildie was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Lou (Butler) Varnell, one brother Perry Varnell, one sister Ruby Tillery and one grandson Kyle Carter.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in the Sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Don Yandell officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
