da Mae Thompson, lifelong Cleveland area resident, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2003 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of eighty-eight years, seven months and four days.
Ida Mae was born July 3, 1914 in Boston Pool, Oklahoma, north of Cleveland on the Arkansas River. She was raised in Boston Pool and attended school there. Ida Mae was baptized in the family of Christ in the Arkansas River while attending the Boston Pool Baptist Church.
Ida was married to Robert Thompson on November 21, 1993 at Skiatook, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Boston Pool, raising two sons, Charles and Doyle. The couple moved their family to Cleveland in 1949. Ida Mae was employed for many years at the Cook Grocery in Cleveland, working as a sacker, checker, cashier and in the meat market. She retired from Cook's in the early 1970's and then accepted a job as the custodian of the Cleveland Area Hospital. She continued to work at the hospital for nearly three more years.
Ida transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Cleveland in 1974 and has remained a member for the past twenty-nine years. She was known throughout the community for garage sales she conducted frequently at 1010 West Pawnee in Cleveland. She would travel during the week with her husband, Robert to garage sales throughout the area, often purchasing items in need of repair. Then the couple would fix the items and resale them at her garage sale on the weekends. Ida's favorite pastime was spending time and sharing her love with her grandchildren. She had an extensive collection of dolls which she also liked to share with her great-grandchildren. Robert, her husband of fifty-six years, preceded her in death on December 7, 1989. In addition to her husband, Ida Mae was preceded in death by four brothers, Bailey, Alvie, Andy and Murphy; and two sisters, Eva Owens and Juanita Lemmons.
Ida Mae is survived by her two sons and their wives, Doyle and Geneva Thompson and Charles and Shirley Thompson, all of Cleveland, Oklahoma ; five granddaughters, Kimberly Ellen Strait, Hominy, Oklahoma, Debbie Jo Dyer, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kelly Erin Danner, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shawn Bryant, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Kandis Elaine Sinclair, Cleveland, Oklahoma; grandson, Greg Billen; twelve great-grandchildren, one great great-granddaughter and a brother, Lee Roy ''Doc'' Adams, Hominy, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 10, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
