Ida Mae Powell, lifelong Cleveland area resident, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of eighty-four years, ten months and fourteen days.

Ida Mae was born on March 9, 1917 in Blue Springs, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Lester James and Lottie Mae Self. Ida moved with her family shortly after her birth to the Barnsdall Camp, just east of Osage. She was raised and attended school in Osage, graduating from Osage High School in 1935.

Shortly after graduation, Ida was married to John Delbert Powell at Osage, Oklahoma on June 30, 1935. The couple initially established their home in Osage and then moved to Pryor for a short time before moving to Cleveland in 1945. Ida Mae dedicated her life to the care of her husband and four children. She did work outside the home for a few years as a cook at the Cleveland Eastside Elementary and then later at Hissom Memorial Center in Sand Springs.

Ida was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland for over fifty years. She often assisted with Vacation Bible School and served for many years on the Church Board.

Delbert preceded her in death on March 22, 1977 after forty-two years of marriage. She loved working with her hands and spent countless hours crocheting and quilting items for her family. She has made bed spreads and table clothes for all of her children and grandchildren. She also loved gardening and canning vegetables

Ida was been a resident at Cleveland Manor Nursing Home for the past seven years. In addition to her husband, Ida was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Everett, Winfred, and Clinton Self; and a granddaughter, Sherry Dawn Powell.

She is survived by four sons, Dr. Jack and Judy Powell, West Monroe, Louisiana; Terry and Joan Powell, Claremore, Oklahoma; Gale and Kay Powell, Cleveland, Oklahoma; and John Powell, Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Aletha Millsap, Pryor, Oklahoma; three sister-in-laws, Mrs. Lenora Self, Pryor, OK. Mrs. George Taylor, Ash Grove, Mo., and Mrs. Gerald Stockton, Aldeo, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland or Cleveland's Meals on Wheels, P. O. Box 191, Cleveland, OK 74020.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 26, 2002 at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Louis Speck officiaiting. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
