Howard Bradley West

Howard Bradley West, 54, known to most as Brad, passed from this life on December 31, 2019, at his home in Hallett, Oklahoma, surrounded by those who loved him. Born on November 27, 1965, in Covington, Oklahoma, Brad is the son of Stanley Wayne West and Deborah Lynn Prewitt. Growing up in Depew, Oklahoma, he attended school there until his 9th-grade year. Around that time, Brad ran away from home to join the carnival. At 18 years old, Brad joined the US Army, enlisting on January 27, 1987. After enlisting, Brad served as an infantryman in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Gulf War. During his service, Brad was awarded the Army Commendation Medal four times, the Army Achievement Medal three times, the Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Southeast Asia Service Medal with three stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He also received an invitation and was admitted into the Order of Saint Maurice. Sgt. West was serving with the 8th Calvary at Ft. Hood, Texas when he was discharged on March 2, 1994. Sgt. West re-enlisted in the National Guard. In September of 2000, he delivered his unit into Operation Joint Forge. Brad was a part of NATO Stabilization Force 8 (SFOR8) at Fort McGovern, deployed to Bosnia Herzegovina. After retiring from the military, Brad enrolled in Vatterott College, studying HVAC. Upon his graduation, Brad took employment with Pembrook Heat & Air, which he later took ownership of. Brad eventually sold the company and joined the Sheetmetal Local 270, working there until his health would no longer allow.
Brad would spend his free time building corrals for his cattle, riding his motorcycle, going on cruises, and listening to classic country music. Taking vacations would be an adventure. The family would get together and they would decide where to go or what to do. There always was some outlandish, crazy plan for a trip. Brad and Rebecca loved going on cruises and meeting new people, and they were always going on a new adventure. Whenever the family was together, Brad would tell the kids, “I Love You” often. Those who knew him, knew he was a jokester; always laughing, cutting up, smiling, singing, and doing his belly dance.
Brad loved playing cards with his Uncle Grover and Aunt Susie, along with his mother Deborah Johnson and he always told them to bring a lot of money because he planned on taking it from them.
Brad is survived by wife of the home, Rebecca West, of Hallett; his parents, Stanley West and Deborah Prewitt; 3 children, Kristen Boe, and husband Jake Leadingfox of Hallett, Oklahoma, Logan West and wife Casey Compton, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, niece Ashleigh Stoneburner and Justin of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Madison West of Hallett, Oklahoma; 7 adopted children, Jason, Alexander, Isiah, Emily, Makenzie, Johnathan, James; 8 grandchildren, Benjamin, Jasper, Aleksander, Mason, Clara, Samuel, Nathaniel, River; 5 sisters; and four brothers. He is preceded in death by a stepmother, Martha June West, and stepfather, James Rodell Johnson and Uncle Grover Prewitt.
A visitation is being held on Friday, January 3, 2020, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 2:00 PM in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. A private family committal will be held at a later date.
