Henry Lee Summers

Henry Lee Summers was born February 5, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Henry Elvis and Hazel (Maybush) Summers. He moved with his family at an early age to New Boston where he later graduated from Huron High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation, Henry accepted employment with Ford Motor Company where he worked on the plant assembly building starters. He was married to Linda Barbara Carter on November 24, 1964. The couple had three children, Henry Lee Summer, Jr., Matthew L. Summers, and Grace Summers. Henry was employed for nearly fifteen years with the Ford Motor Company. The couple relocated to the Ada, Oklahoma area in 1978. Henry then began a career in the building trades as a cabinet builder and carpenter. In 1986, the Summerís family moved to Sacramento, California and Henry accepted a position as a painter with TSV Painting. They returned to Oklahoma, to the Terlton area, in 1995 and Henry continued working in the building trades as he assisted in the maintenance of apartment complexes painting and repairing anything that needed fixing. In 2003, Henry retired because of health issues following a stroke. Although extensive physical therapy following the stroke failed to render desired results; moving to Rollover Pass, Bolivar Peninsula near Galveston, Texas in 2005 provided immediate results. Henry resumed an old passion for fishing and spending countless hours shark fishing in the Gulf of Mexico provided rehabilitation both physically and mentally. Wading out into the water against the surf and sand strengthened his entire body and provided increased usage of his right side. He would fish nearly every day brining home massive sharks which were prepared to eat in countless fashions. He also enjoyed collecting their teeth and jaws. Henry and Linda returned to Oklahoma in 2007 and moved to their current home just south of Cleveland where he passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the age of sixty-four. He was described by his family as hardworking, problem solving man who could fix just about anything he put his mind too. He enjoyed playing practical jokes on his family and was a bit ornery. He was brutally honest and when he was not fishing or working was basically a home body and family man. Henry is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Linda of the home; son, Matthew L. Summers of Terlton, Oklahoma; daughter, Grace Lucas of Terlton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Britney Overstreet, Chad Wilson, Megan Summer and Matthew L. Summers, Jr.; one great-grandson, Revyn Overstreet; two brothers, Danny Summers of Ada, Oklahoma and James Summers of Mannford, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Elvis and Hazel Summers and a son, son, Henry Lee Summers, Jr. Henryís final wish was that a portion of his cremated remains be placed in a mullet and used by his son to catch one last shark in the Gulf of Mexico; that family celebration of the life of Henry Lee Summers will occur at a later date. Cremation was entrusted to the Chapman-Black Funeral Home through Cremation Safeguard.
