Helen Retha Carter

Helen Retha Carter a resident of Cleveland was born October 20, 1918 in Boston Pool, Oklahoma to James Martin and Callie F. (Essman) Adams. Helen was and raised and received her education in the Boston Pool area. Helen was united in marriage to Grover C. Alburty on October 20, 1940 in Osage, Oklahoma. After their marriage they made their home in Osage, Oklahoma. They continued to live in Osage until they made their home in Cleveland in the mid 1950's. After Grover passed away Helen continued to reside in Cleveland. On June 28, 1960 Helen married George Arthur Breeden on June 28, 1960 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. George passed away on March 14, 1984 and on October 30, 1990 she was united in marriage to Edward Robert Carter in Arkansas.

Helen always loved being around her children and the friends and continually had large gatherings at during the holidays. She was also always preparing meals for friends and visitors that came to her home. Helen also enjoyed going to Neosho, Missouri for vacations. After her marriage to Ed they would always take Sunday afternoon rides which she cherished so much. Helen was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church and former member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Grover Columbus Alburty on May 19, 1959; George Arthur Breeden on March 14, 1984 and Edward Robert Carter on January 6, 1994; six brothers, Tony Adams, Marshall Adams, Eugene Ellis Adams, Rolla Adams, Goldie Adams, and James Earl Adams as well as a grandson Jeffrey Scott Tisher.

Helen went to be with her Lord on January 4, 2004 in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years 2 months and 14 days.

Survived by her three daughters, Carolyn Vaughan of Terlton, Oklahoma; Norma Jean and husband Tom Tisher of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Donna and husband Garry Davis of Cleveland, Oklahoma; four sons, G.C and wife Linda Alburty of Borger, Texas; Jim and wife Cathy Alburty of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Johnny Alburty of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Arthur and wife Robin Breeden of Jackson, Tennessee; one sister, Mamie Mouser, Florida; eight grandchildren, Randy Vaughan of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Ronnie Vaughan of Mannford, Oklahoma; Ricky Vaughan of Terlton, Oklahoma; Nannette Stanley of Wagoner, Oklahoma; Tim Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Tonya Owens of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Chris Alburty of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Donica Webb of Kansas City, Missouri; sixteen great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
