Helen M. Stook was born May 4, 1913 in Meriden, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Ada Woodward. Helen was raised in the Hartford area and attended school there.
Although she spent her younger years in Connecticut and was married to Philip W. Stook before moving to New York, Helen spent most of her adult life in upstate New York. Helen worked and raised her family, mostly in the Rochester and Hornell area. She was a supervisor in retail sales for the J. C. Penny Company for over twenty years.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Philip on June 6, 1986. She continued to reside in Avon, New York until 1994 when she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She moved to the Westport area near Cleveland a couple of years ago to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
Helen was a member of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed sewing and knitting in her younger years. She loved spending time with her Yorkie, Brandi for the past eight years. She also was an avid reader.
Helen passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of eighty-eight years, eight months and five days. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Philip ''Buddy'' Stook, Jr.; a sister, Edith; and two brothers, Joseph and William.
She is survived by a son, Allen T. Stook and his wife, Carolyn Tucker-Stook, Barre, Vermont; a daughter, Elaine Stook-Mansur and her husband, Dr Laurence Mansur, Cleveland, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Cheryl Stook, San Francisco, California; Carrie Migliori, Boyington Beach, Florida; Christa Bashara, Montpelier, Vermont; and five great-grandchildren.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2002 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 11, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cleveland with Father Bruce Brosnahan officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
