Helen Loraine Clemens was born July 7, 1924 in Johnstown, Colorado. She was the daughter of Willie Lester and Velta Blaylock. Helen moved with her family at an early age to Calvin, Oklahoma where she was raised and attended school.
Helen was married to Arlon Powell on December 16, 1941. The couple made their initial home in McAlester and had two children, Wayne and Sue. Mr. Powell preceded her in death on February 5, 1948. After the death of her first husband, Helen met and later married Willard Clemens on June 1, 1951 in Lordsburg, New Mexico. The couple made their home in Arizona for many years and had one daughter, Becky. Mr. Clemens preceded her in death in May of 1969.
Helen was a member of the Methodist Church. Her hobbies included gardening, attending garage sales, watching basketball and baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She returned to Oklahoma in the early 1990's, residing in Cleveland for several years. She has been residing in the Grace House of Fountain View Manor in Henryetta for the past four years where she had a special extended family of caregivers and friends.
Helen passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Fountain View Manor in Henryetta at the age of eighty-years, seven months and twenty-four days. In addition to her two husbands, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Clyde Blaylock.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Powell of Eloy, Arizona; two daughters, Marilyn Sue Bradley of Henryetta, Oklahoma and Becky Randall of Cleveland, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Wayne Powell, Jr. of Eloy, Arizona, Justin Powell of Elko, Nevada, James Powell of Eloy, Arizona, Steven Powell of Eloy, Arizona, Wendy Amey of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Sherry Darg of Kansas, Greg Wilson of Willcox, Arizona, Howard Sanders and Jason Sanders, both of Cleveland, Oklahoma; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren, two brothers, Willie Blaylock of Phoenix, Arizona and Doyle Blaylock of Graeagle, California; two sisters, Willa Mae Larson of Livingston, Texas and Barbara Garrett of Whitewright, Texas and a special family at Grace House in Henryetta.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Calvin Cemetery in Calvin, Oklahoma. Visit and online guestbook and obituary for Helen Clemens at www.chapman-black.com.
