Harold Stamper

Harold R. Stamper, eighty-one of Terlton, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior April 12, 2014, in Claremore, Oklahoma. Harold was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1932. He attended and graduated from Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas. Harold joined the army in August of 1953 and served as a para trooper in the 82nd Air Borne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This is where he met and married his wife Doris Stamper. After his discharge from the Army they lived in Southern Pines, North Carolina, where he became a police officer for a short time. Later they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they resided for approximately 15 years and then they moved to Terlton, Oklahoma. Harold was employed by the US Postal Service in Bartlesville and Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he retired after 28 years of service. He then furthered his education at Oklahoma State University by completing his Construction Engineering Degree at the age of 62. Harold excelled at many sports including many runs and triathlons, up until his late 60ís and also held numerous national archery titles and participated in the Trials for the Olympics. Harold loved Christian music and the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed being part of a musical group playing at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. He also was a volunteer for many years at the Sunshine Seniors of Project Heart in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Harold loved going to many different senior citizens centers in the surrounding towns, playing and singing with his fellow senior citizens. Harold was the first of ten children and proceeded in death by his mother, Nellie Stamper (McCash), father Roy Stamper, wife Evelyn Stamper, sister Roy Jean Stamper, brother Jack Stamper and daughter in law Debra Lynn Stamper . Survivors are his stepmother Iva Jean Raymon of Sedan, Kansas; former wife Doris Stamper of Terlton, Oklahoma; children James and Tina Stamper of Terlton, Oklahoma, Robert Stamper of Terlton, Oklahoma, Debbie and Kenny Kelsey of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Cindy Stamper-West of Terlton, Oklahoma, Tammy and Doug Collins of Stillwater, Oklahoma; siblings Richard Stamper of Prattville, Oklahoma, Gary Stamper of Bixby, Oklahoma, Linda Blevins of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Kenneth Stamper of Norman, Oklahoma, Dana Smith of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Gerald Stamper of Tulsa, Oklahoma, James Stamper of Tulsa, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews. Church Services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Terlton Baptist Church with Pastors Scott Watkins and Jimmy Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in the Terlton Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Veteranís Center, Claremore Division, P.O. Box 988, Claremore, Oklahoma 74018.
