Grant ''Buster'' Gill

Grant ''Buster'' Gill, lifelong Cleveland/Osage area resident passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of eighty-two years, eight months and twenty-two days.

Grant was born on February 13, 1920 in Wilburton, Oklahoma. He was the son of Grant, Sr. and Minnie Gill. He moved with his family at an early age to Osage, Oklahoma where he attended Osage School.

Upon completion of his schooling, Grant, who was known as Buster, began a long career in the oilfields. He accepted employment as a roustabout and worked on pumping units throughout Osage and Pawnee Counties. He was married to Ruby Davis at their Pastor's home in Cleveland, Oklahoma on September 22, 1941. The couple made their initial home in Osage and then moved to Great Bend, Kansas when Grant accepted employment as a roustabout and then as a pumper with Stanley Oil Company. After four years in Kansas, Ruby and Grant returned to Osage for a short time before moving to Utah.

While in Utah, Grant had the opportunity to spent a lot of time hunting and fishing but especially enjoyed taking his sons deer hunting. After seven years in Utah, the family moved to the Los Angeles area in California when Grant accepted employment in a automobile manufacturing plant. He also attended welding school while in California. After a couple of years in California the Gill family returned to Osage, Oklahoma. Grant and Ruby had seven children, William, Ron, Jimmy, Craig, Teresa, Garry and Larry. Upon returning to Osage, Grant began a trucking business hauling all types of material and trucked many loads of gravel for the Keystone Dam Project and the surrounding roadways. He later entered the construction business and built many homes throughout the area including his own home on West Caddo in Cleveland.

Grant was a family oriented person. He spent countless hours camping, fishing and hunting with his family members and was extremely proud of all his children. He especially enjoyed teaching the boys to fish and hunt, a hobby they all continue to enjoy. Additionally, he loved making music, playing the guitar and singing. He continued to sing at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home after moving there for health reasons.

Grant was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. During his life, Grant will be remembered as a jack of all trades. In addition to working in the oilfields as a roustabout and pumper and operating his trucking and construction business, Grant owned his own gas station, was a welder, stone mason and car mechanic.

Buster is survived by his wife, Ruby of the home; seven children, William and Nina Gill, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ron and Margret Gill, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jimmy Gill, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Craig and Natalie Gill, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Teresa and Roy Aldridge, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Garry and Tanya Gill, San Antonio, Texas, Larry and Deboria Gill, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents;, ten brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, November 8, 2002 at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
