Goldie Marie Alexander of Jennings, Oklahoma, age 92, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Goldie was born on October 12, 1915, in Missouri the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Longgrear. Mr. Longgrear, originally from London, England moved to America where he and Goldie's mother finally settled on a farm in Kansas. Goldie attended school in Angola, Kansas near Coffeyville. Upon completion of her high school education, Goldie enrolled in beauty school in Coffeyville where she received her certification. Then in 1937, Goldie moved to Oklahoma near her sister in Maramec. It was then that she met and later married Arlis Jackson "Jack" Alexander on September 1, 1938 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Goldie and Jack established their initial home in Ralston, Oklahoma wher they remained until 1942, when they made their home east of Jennings. At that time, Jack worked for the Frisco Railroad and Goldie accepted employment at the Jennings School in the cafeteria. In 1954, Goldie and Jack purchased the local caf in Jennings from Cecil Caudle and opened Goldie's Caf. Mrs. Alexander operated the business until the late 1960's. For the next few years Goldie Joined Jack traveling throughout the Southwestern parts of the United States working on the pipeline.
Goldie had a great love for flowers and she very much enjoyed gardening. She also took great pleasure in cooking, reading, sewing, caring for her cats and watching her game shows on television. Above all Goldie, Goldie took great joy in spending time with her family and friends which she loved very much. Goldie was very active and lively woman, some would even call her "a bit feisty"! Goldie will be dearly missed by all those who loved and knew her.
Goldie is survived by her daughter Shirley Ann Sneed and her husband Rex of Jennings; two sons Arlie "Jackie" Alexander of Jennings, Ronald "Ronnie" Alexander and daughter in law Joyce Hickson also of Jennings; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Goldie was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband Arlis Jackson "Jack", two sisters Hallie Ellis and Inez Harris, three brothers, son Charles Lee Alexander and granddaughter Teresa Lynn Alexander.
Chapel services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Pastor Larry Schiller officiating. Goldie will be laid to rest, beside her beloved husband Jack at Lawson Cemetery in Yale, Oklahoma under the of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
