Glenn Verl Leverett was born January 25, 1940 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was the son of Raymond Rex and Juanita Tryphena Mae (Rigsby) Leverett. He moved at an early age to the Tulsa/Sand Springs line on Charles Page Boulevard and attended Mark Twain Elementary School. As Glenn was a tough kid and got into a few fights, Tryphena decided to send Glenn and his sister, Eunice to a Catholic school in Sand Springs for a while. He later graduated from Central High School in Tulsa with the Class of 1958. While a still a teenager, Glenn worked at Commander Mills and Kerr Glass in Sand Springs. Glenn then moved to California where he worked as a carpenter framing houses for a couple of years. While in California, Glenn joined the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club and actually built a bike from several parts from several motorcycles. After returning to Oklahoma, Glenn was unfortunately involved in the kidnapping and shooting of a Sapulpa taxi driver. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. During the July 27, 1973 riot at the prison, Glenn assisted a guard and two women staff members escape. Subsequently he was pardoned of his sentence by Oklahoma Governor George Nigh and released from incarceration. Glenn was employed by CE NATCO for eight years as a gunite applicator until they closed in 1981. Glenn then accepted employment with a friend, Richard Vandivort serving as a flagman/escort for a mobile home and trailer moving company. Later he began a career as a carpet installer working at Carpet City until his retirement in 2002. Glenn was baptized at the Glenwood Baptized in Tulsa at an early age. He learned to play the accordion during his school years, which seemed to please his mother and learned to Slalom ski, which seemed to please his father. Boating, skiing, and camping with his parents and other family members were some of his most memorial occasions in life. Additionally, purchasing a new Harley in 1979 and taking it on a six day trip to California was one of his favorite times. He also enjoyed his honeymoon to New Orleans, a 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii and working in Alaska for a short time. He often said that he felt his mother had the greatest effect on his life as she never gave up on him. Also his grandfather, Grover Rigsby, his uncle, Lester Rigsby, his cousin, Jim Matthews and his wife, Evelyn all played important roles in his life. Additionally, a cousin, Billy Peterman who taught him how to butcher and make his own hot sausage. Glenn was often quoted as saying, ìIím going to live till I die, if it kills me.î He enjoyed Country Western and Big Band music including, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Bob Wills, Glenn Miller, Lee Ann Rymes and the Oak Ridge Boys. His hobbies included leather making purses, billfolds and belts; woodwork including furniture and clocks. Some of his most memorial pets have been a Brahma bull named Booger, Rabbit the rooster, Charlene a white goose, Piggly Wigley, a Vietnamese pig and many others. He also enjoyed raising cattle and helping Bob Gaddis on his ranch. Glenn had hoped to travel more if given the opportunity and also get his tryke fixed. He also had a desire to drive a race care with Clint and Scott Burton. Glenn passed from this life on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of seventy-thee He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Rex Leverett and his grandparents, Grover Rigsby and Matilda Peterman Rigsby. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Marie Leverett of the home in Cleveland, Oklahoma; mother, Juanita Tryphena Mae Leverett of Cleveland, Oklahoma; an adopted son, Jeff June; and a sister, Eunice Marie Hillsberry of Cleveland, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Following cremation, Glenn will be interred at Sinnett Cemetery near Cleveland.
