Glenn Thomas Childress, of Yale, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of seventy. Glenn was born on September 15, 1941 in Purdy, Missouri; the son of George Thomas and Hazel Juanita (Dotson) Childress. Glenn was raised and attended school in Barry County, Missouri. For many years, Glenn owned and operated the G & C Painting Company in the Purdy and Cassville area of southeastern Missouri. He later was trained as a turret lathe operator used for repetitive production of duplicate parts in the construction of valves for the Geo Source Valve Company. He continued to work in that capacity for many years. His passion, however, was for his music. He learned to play the guitar and fiddle at an early age and continued his love of music thoroughout his life. He often played gospel, country western or bluegrass music with his family whenever possible. He also enjoyed songwriting, as well as performing at many venues. Music was his life. He also enljoyed gardening. Glenn is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Machelle Childress of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two daughters and their spouses, Debbie and Steve Scales of San Antonio, Texas and Carla and Ron Jones of Dewey, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Patricia and her husband, Richard Cross, James and his wife, Terri Rhoades, Jeffery Jones, Kristi and her husband, Chris King, Travis Jones, Traci and her husband, Clancey Fairless, Shane Childress and Anna Childress ; six greatgrandchildren, Koby Cross, David Lee Cross, Austin Hunt, John Jones, Drake King, and Bryson Rhoades; four brothers, Paul and Phyllis Childress, Max Allen Childress, Danny Childress, Harvey and Eureka Childress; sisters, Shirley and Dick Hudson, Bonnie and Darryl Kasparek, and Barbara and Jim Folkner; friends, Phyllis Childress, Carolyn Childress, and Nelda Chandler. He was preceded in death by parents, George Thomas Childress and Hazel Juanita Childress Levi; and a brother, Bobby Ray Childress. A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monet, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10:00 am with Rev. Bob Day officiating.
