George Waldo Tyner was born July 17, 1921 in Gore, Oklahoma. He was the son of John Wesley Tyner, Jr. and Dona Myrtle (Sitton) Tyner. George was raised and attended school in Gore, graduating with the Gore High School Class of 1939. He was a Native American, affiliated with the Cherokee tribe. Upon completion of his high school education, George attended Northeastern State College in Tahlequah where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education. Upon completion of his education, George was inducted in the service of his country in the United States Army where he served honorably during the later portion of World War II. After his honorable discharge, George began a long career as an educator in the public schools of Oklahoma. During his tenure as a teacher and coach, he taught in school systems in Gum Springs, Prue, Wildhorse, Osage and Cleveland; serving as Principal in both Osage and Prue. George was married to Mary Louise Tyner and had one daughter, Cynthia Denise ìCindyî, who was born on May 27, 1955. The couple resided in Cleveland their entire married life. In addition to teaching, George worked for several years at the Oklahoma Tire and Supply (OTASCO) for many years, installing and servicing all type of appliances and repairing lawn equipment. Cindy preceded him in death on September 19, 2007 and Mary preceded him on September 20, 2008. George loved working with his hands and especially enjoyed woodworking and the detail of leather work. He could do about anything he put his mind to including building his motherÃs home. He enjoyed fishing and taking care of his garden. He was also fond of singing. George passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2001 at his home in Cleveland at the age of ninety years. He is survived by his nephews, Steve Tyner of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Bill Tyner of Stillwater, Oklahoma; neices, Wanda Curtis of Checotah, Oklahoma, Karen Lamoreaux of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Laura Tyner of Wagoner, Oklahoma, and Twyla Demasses of Houston, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Lynn Tyner of Wagoner, Oklahoma. In addition to his wife and daughter, George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Howard Tyner and Coy Tyner. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Pm Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Reverend Sharyn Cosby-Willis of Sojourn Care officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
