Gene Franklin Humble

Gene Franklin Humble was born April 30, 1928 in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Orville and Mabel Humble. Gene was raised and attended school in Hominy, graduating from Hominy High School in 1946.

Upon completion of his education, Gene moved to Kansas where he accepted employment as a telegraph operator with the railroad. He was married to Lillian Griffin at the First Methodist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma on May 4, 1949. The couple made their initial home in Parson, Kansas after their marriage.

Gene enlisted into the United States Army National Guard and was later called to active duty on September 1, 1950. During his active service, Corporal Gene F. Humble was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy in Korea between December 23, 1951 and April 27, 1952. He was honorably discharged from active duty on June 8, 1952 and returned to Parsons where his family was residing. Shortly after his discharge, Gene and Lillian moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where Gene accepted employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone as a trouble shooter and repairman. They continued to reside in Las Vegas until Gene was transferred to the Tulsa area for Southwestern Bell in 1974, when they established their home in Cleveland.

Gene worked for Southwestern Bell for another seventeen years before retiring on June 27, 1991. During his tenure with the telephone company, Gene was a member of the Communication Workers of America, Local 6012. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland. He was an avid golfer and was a charter member of the Keystone Golf Club. He also enjoyed watching television and playing with his dog, Mariah. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Cleveland Post.

Gene and Lillian moved to Enid in 1996 to be near their daughter, Vicki. Gene passed away at the Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid on Monday, April 4, 2005 at the age of seventy-six years, eleven moths and four days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-six years, Lillian of the home; son and his wife, James and Julia Humble of Cleveland, Oklahoma; daughter and her husband, Vicki and Brian Miller of Enid, Oklahoma; daughter, Valerie Gene Humble of Terlton, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, April Neheis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Heather Udoll of England, Jamie Humble of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Amber Kinman of Norman, Oklahoma and Kelby Kinman of Enid, Oklahoma and a brother, Charles Humble of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Dan Edens and Pastor Dean Switzer officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
