Private memorial services for Gaylon Brooks Alderman were held on Saturday, June 28, 2014. The body was cremated under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Gaylon was born March 5, 1941, in Hillsville,Virginia. He was the son of Orby Kyress and Betty Ruth (White) Alderman. As a young child Gaylon grew up in Carroll County, located in Southwest Virginia. He graduated from Hillsville High School and also studied business administration at Western Community College in Roanoke and real estate law at John Tyler Community College in Richmond, VA later. Gaylon was united in marriage to Elsie Marie Webb on July 9, 1960 in Sparta, North Carolina. In 1980, Gaylon and Elsie moved to Central Virginia. Gaylon has been a machinist for many years starting at Poly Scientific in Blacksburg Va, moving to Mechanical Development in Salem VA for more than 14 years, and on to Reynolds Metals in Richmond VA in 1977. Gaylon worked for there for over 20 years until his retirement due to health conditions in 2001, by which time the company had been bought out by Alcoa. During his time at Reynolds Metals, he worked part-time for B.Z. Realty Company in Petersburg, VA, and eventually earned his broker's license. One of his proudest accomplishments was owning his own small agency, A Realty Co., for several years before and for a short time after his retirement. In the summer of 2006, Gaylon and Elsie moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma to be closer to their younger daughter's family and to enroll their grandson, Tyler in a better school system. Gaylon loved meeting and talking to the residents of Cleveland, and was very happy with his new home. Gaylon had many hobbies. He really enjoyed bluegrass music and was a league bowler during the time they lived in Virginia. Most of all in life Gaylon loved his family and enjoyed being around his family and grandchildren. Gaylon passed from this life at his home after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the age of 73 years, three months and nineteen days. Survivors are his wife Elsie of the home, two daughters Robin Alderman of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Sherry Ingram and her husband Michael Ingram of Cleveland, Oklahoma; one brother Martin Alderman of Woodlawn, Virginia; three sisters Guida Nester and Wanda Mullins of Hillsville, Virginia and Velma Nester of Christiansburg, Virginia; three grandchildren Tyler Alderman and Kinsey Ingram of Cleveland, and Kiley Ingram of Norman, OK. Gaylon was preceded in death by his father Orby Alderman, mother Betty Alderman; stillborn daughter and a brother Carlos Alderman.
