Gary Russell Edgerton, 69, lifelong resident passed from this life on February 27, 2021, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Gary was born on February 18, 1952, in Hominy, Oklahoma; he was the son of John Russell and Donna Lou (Teter) Edgerton. Gary grew up and attended school in Cleveland. During his time in high school Gary worked at Otasco. Following his graduation with the Class of 1970, Gary accepted employment with Indian Electric. After about two years, Gary began working for Southwestern Bell as a telephone repairman. On January 28, 1972, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, Gary was united in marriage to Sandra Rae Bohannan. In the mid 1980’s and the merger with AT&T, Gary began working as a area manager in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Market. In early 1990, Gary parted ways from AT&T and formed Edgetel Communications. He installed and repaired phone systems for local businesses as well as worked as an independent contractor for McDonnell, Boeing and lastly Spirit Aero Systems maintaining their telecommunications system for many years. In 2017, Gary retired after nearly 40 years in the telecommunications business.
Gary loved being outdoors. He spent numerous hours fishing, bird hunting and traveling with Sandra on their Harley. Gary and Sandra took yearly trips on their motorcycle touring the United States. He also spent time fishing bass tournaments in the area. Gary always had a immaculate yard the he tended to daily. However, being with his family, especially his grandbabies was his favorite part of life.
Survivors include his wife Sandra of the home, two children Renee Hussey and her husband Sean of Owasso, Oklahoma, Mike Edgerton and his wife Ashley of Jenks, Oklahoma, two siblings Donnie Edgerton of McAlester, Oklahoma, Jonna Garrett and her husband Dale of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren Jacob and Olivia Edgerton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Joel Edgerton of Jenks, Oklahoma, John Edgerton of Jenks, Oklahoma, Ali and Blake Teel of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Brannon Hussey and Neely Short of Owasso, Oklahoma, Macey, McKinley, Ellie and Brex Edgerton all of Jenks, Oklahoma and one great granddaughter Logan Hussey as well as numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. Gary was preceded in death by his parents John and Donna Edgerton and a son Joe Edgerton.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, March 4, 2021, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Gary at www.chapman-black.com.
