Alfreda Kavanaugh Carter, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, in Mannford, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years, eleven months and twenty days.

Freda was born on February 15, 1921; she was the daughter of Fred and Beulah (Medley) Tunstall. As a young girl Freda grew up and attended school in the Turley area later graduating from Cherokee High School in Turley, Oklahoma. Following high school Freda was united in marriage to the love of her life Lloyd George Carter following a short courtship on July 19, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Old Mannford and later moved to Tulsa. From 1944 to 1946, Freda and Lloyd moved to several places due to the fact Lloyd was in the United States Army. Upon Lloyd’s discharge the couple resided in Tulsa. In 1949, Freda and Lloyd moved to Sand Springs where she has continued to reside. Freda worked as a bookkeeper from 1958 till 1965 for PSO. From 1966 till 1972, Freda worked at Akins and Fincannon Packing Company in Sand Springs. In 1977, Freda and Lloyd became partners with their son Lee at A-1 Rental and she worked as the bookkeeper until 1982.

Freda loved her family dearly. She always cherished the times her family was together. Freda and Lloyd were avid bowlers and bowled on a league for many years at the Crystal Bowl. The pair loved to travel and has been to nearly every state in the Union as well as a cruise to Alaska. Freda was a wonderful artist. She enjoyed oil painting as well as china. Freda was a wonderful gardner and enjoyed making tomato juice from the plants that she and Lloyd grew. Freda enjoyed playing dominoes and pitch. One thing about Freda was she never met a stranger, very fun to be around and loved to recite limericks.

Survivors are her son Lee Carter and his wife Belvalee of Hominy, Oklahoma, two grandchildren Tammy Franklin and her husband Mark of Owasso, Oklahoma, Jerry Carter and his wife Rebecca of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, nine great grandchildren Justin Franklin and his wife Desiree, Jeremy Franklin, Jessica Franklin, Mark Franklin, Jr., Kristen Clary and her husband Patrick, Marissa Carter, Hunter Carter, Darryl Crenshaw, Joel Carter, seven great great grandchildren Gunner Franklin, Landon Franklin, Carter Clary, Addison Westerman, Braden Clary, Hagen Sewell, Taebur Franklin and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents Freda was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, one infant son Jerry Lynn Carter, two sisters Fern Harding, Twila Davis and one brother Ward Tunstall.

Services will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Herbert Reel officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
