Fred Leslie Byers was born to Floyd Que and Opal Byers in Osage, Oklahoma on March 28, 1938. He graduated from Osage High School in 1957 and went to work for Phillips 66 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and later transferred to Grants, New Mexico. He joined the U.S. Navy where he served on submarines and destroyers. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Boxing Team.
Fred was a prominent Wichita business man with various properties throughout the area. He was a pillar in the community helping many people gain a place to live or home ownership. Fair and charitable business man, "His word was his bond"
He passed away on July 5th, 2018 in Wichita, Kansas.
He is survived by Anna Guerrrero of the home and his stepsons Ruben Gomez, Efrain Gomez and Kirk Manuel all of Wichita. He is also survived by brothers Jim Byers and Gene Byers from Cleveland, Oklahoma, Jack and Pat Byers of Alexis, Illinois and sister and brother in law Betty and Gary Carpenter of Niceville, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by parents Que and Opal Byers, brother Kenneth Byers and sister-in-laws Carol Byers, Shirley Byers and Dorothy Byers and nephew Michael Carpenter.
Funeral services for Fred Byers will be Tuesday, July 10, 2018 1:00 pm, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Gene Black officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
