Floyd Cleo Spencer

Floyd Cleo Spencer, 92, a longtime resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Stillwater Medical Center.

Floyd was born April 13, 1925, near Olive, Oklahoma. He was the son of Samuel L. and Mary (Kline) Spencer. Floyd was raised in the Olive area until moving with his family near Cleveland. Floyd attended school at Greenwood and completed his education at Grandview school. Floyd later entered into the service on June 29, 1945. He was later honorably discharged on November 25, 1946. Upon his discharge, Floyd returned to the Cleveland area and began working in the oil fields. On February 20, 1947, Floyd was united in marriage to Wilma Potts establishing their home in Cleveland. Floyd worked for Woody Sneed as well as Nelson Eyler and Jack Murphy at E & M Drilling. Floyd operated a cable tool for many years before deciding to venture on his own with longtime friend Kenneth Whited drilling water wells. Several years later Floyd began a new venture drilling shallow oil and gas wells in the area. In the late 1980’s Floyd retired however remained active helping others. Friends and family would often bring things by for him to fix or tinker on.

Floyd was always a wealth of knowledge for others, and he was willing to lend his information to others. He loved working outdoors and going to the Hickory House to catch up with his friends.

Survivors are his son Joe Spencer and his wife Lou Ann of Jennings, Oklahoma; three daughters Connie Jean and her husband Howard Dean of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Debra Ann Long and her husband Steve of Jennings, Oklahoma, Cindy Lou Spencer of Cleveland, Oklahoma; one brother Lloyd Spencer of McAlester, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma, four brothers Willis Spencer, Cletus Spencer, Bud Spencer and Norman Spencer.

Graveside services and interment will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Terlton Cemetery. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com.
